Desert Open Studios Jan 2025

Desert Open Studios was a big success with lots of art collectors and art enthusiasts stopping by the studio

I’m so proud of Desert Open Studios now in its 5th year! As a co-founder I believe our goal of connecting local artists with art enthusiasts has been achieved and with more than 150 artists participating it was a big hit this year and I look forward to the 2026 edition. I’m not managing the event going forward but happy to be part of the talented group of artists in the Via Negocio arts district. This year I donated $5200 of sales to support a friend and fellow artist who lost their home in the Altadena fires. I can’t imagine what it was like evacuating and leaving with only your pets and the clothes on your back so I wanted to help in any way I could.

Memory Maps a series of small paintings that are inspired by California landscapes and everyday objects

Memory Maps is a new series of small paintings that capture the California landscapes I see on my daily walks along with impressions of everyday objects

Memory Maps are 9 by 12 inch paintings that I completed in 2024 that are quick studies of the desert and city landscapes I see on my daily walks along with explorations of colors, shapes and designs of everyday objects. I had a great deal of joy making these since they were so small I could easily experiment with textures, materials and perspectives. You can see the influence of some of my favorite artists such as Laura Owens, Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Agnes Pelton and many others. While many of these paintings have been sold there are some still available so if you see one you like feel free to get in touch with me. They are all $500US.

Murals inspired by the desert Colors, Light & Landscapes

This gallery of Palm Springs Murals are all inspired by the desert landscapes, colors and light

Over the past few years I’ve created a number of large scale murals in Palm Springs both for interior and exterior spaces. Each is very site specific and reflects the desert landscapes with a modernist touch. The large scale spaces provide a more gestural application of paint along with passages of smaller interventions using colors that both complement and contrast. My goal for each mural is to provide a distinctive viewing experiences at 10 feet or from 10 inches.

Exploring new ways of painting

I’ve been using my favorite material, linen, in new ways where I cut the linen into smaller sections, paint it and reassemble the pieces to suggest movement and time passing. These are inspired by Palm Springs Modernist legacy

I’ve been using my favorite material, linen, in new ways where I cut the linen into smaller sections, paint it and reassemble the pieces to suggest movement and time passing. These two new pieces respond to the movement of the viewer and have hidden seams to expand into a larger painting that is somewhere between textile and traditional structures. You can see more online or if you’d like to visit my art studio in Palm Springs reach out to me to schedule a studio visit.

Going in Circles

My first solo show at Market Market featured a new series of paintings titled Going in Circles where the theme of circles and all they represented was the focus. In addition all the paintings were done on “used” canvases that we donated by friends or found in thrift stores.

Desert Carnival

High Desert Carnival is a visual art extravaganza, presented by SIP Art Space in San Marcos, California, curated by Anna Stump and features three of my Road Map paintings and two sculptures.

The High Desert, defined as the neighborhood of Joshua Tree National Park and the Morongo Basin, has affected the participating artists with a sense of zany celebration and fierce independence. The starkness of the desert environment, with its huge skies, spiky plants and animals, exposed geology and extreme climate, seems to have pushed these artists to the brink. The joyous, surreal, and primal find expression in their work.

Road Map Mural!

I recently completed my first mural which was a challenge since I haven’t worked on such a large scale and on stucco! The painting picks up the colors around this gorgeous Palm Springs home along with the golf course views. I loved the process and the clients were thrilled with the finished results.
